Gala Committee Annual Report – 2017
Once again, the committee enjoyed yet another tremendously successful year, we will hear in a moment if (as I suspect) it was even more successful than last year. But first a summery,
“Overload”, held on the late May bank holiday weekend goes from strength to strength. The weather was not the best and the wind tried to blow us away, several people had gazebos damaged but all were determined to enjoy themselves and that is exactly what they did. Thank you to all who were involved in booking and organising the entertainment, manning the BBQ, selling raffle tickets etc, etc, etc, this event was supposed to be where the committee relaxed and enjoyed themselves too but I think we may aswell face facts and admit that we are all workaholics and just enjoy it too much
Bonfire night. The evening kept fine and the display just gets better. A special thank you must go to Darren and his team of rocket men. The bucket collection is testament to how well received by the public this event is.
The Edwards Family ran the BBQ as they do on gala day, and provide us with one of out biggest income sources. I would like to thank them for all their support over the year. But particularly this year under difficult family circumstances
Gala weekend itself started with the ever popular scarecrow competition and villagers spent an evening wandering around admiring the fabulous entries. Much effort goes into producing g the fabulous creations that do not fail to impress of cause a smile
On Gala day itself we decided that we were having such a good response from stalls and attractions that we were going to have too many for just the top field. The very brave decision that we would try again using both fields was made. This resulted in probably the best gala we have ever had. The parade with its colourful lorries and interesting vehicles including tractors was applauded as it snaked around the village to be received on the rec by a simply massive crowd.
Both recreation grounds were teaming with visitors, here, we need to mention in particular Tim and Annette as they work thoughout the year to make Gala a success. I would also like to say thank you to all the gala committee and helpers that work so hard on the day, and Wendy, Cath and Sue who are still going long after we have all left.
And so the thanks continue, to all our sponsors, helpers, advertisers, stall holders and supports
We have got a Gala committee made up of some very special people who carry Overseal in their hearts, I would like you to know that I am very proud to be able to serve our village along side each and every one of you
